Weingut Umathum - The vineyard "Haideboden"

The vineyard "Haideboden"

Haideboden ("liebe Fraw auff der Hayd", 1482) is an old name for the region around the pilgrimage village of Frauenkirchen (possessio zenmaria, 1324). Haideboden comprises a not strictly defined region around the village of Frauenkirchen between the "Seewinkel" in the west, the "Parndorfer Platte" in the north and the "Hansag" in the south. Haideboden stands for the flat region which is characterised by light, dry and sandy soils. On the slight elevations the meager gravelly soil shows up and gives ideal conditiones for viticulture. The vines grow slow but constant due to the water shortage and regularly reach high ripeness - during winter, the cold air flows off and protects the vineyards of frost damages.

The name Haideboden also verves as a name for vineyards. The vines are planted on different spots with light, mineral and gritty soils marked by the warm character of the region. Our grapes come from a vineyard westward of Frauenkirchen, the alignment of the wines is from east to west.
