The location "Vom Stein"

This vineyard is situated in the village of Frauenkirchen.

Already in maps from 1886 this vineyard can be found, but it is supposed that already a long time before vines have been planted there. A way of the cross constructed at about 1670, which is not existing anymore, had stations made out of stone which gave the parcel its name (vom Stein - from the stone). Furthermore the soil in this parcel is extremely gravelly.

Umathum winery owns on the peak of this light knoll about 1 ha of vineyards. The soil is extremely gravelly and rich in quartz, very dry and extremely hot - the hotspot of all our vineyards. Alignment of the vines is from east to west.

The parcel is perfect for St. Laurent, which prefers warm and dry soils and is here in full cry.
