Climate

THE PANNONIAN CLIMATE

Central Europe’s Pannonian Basin enjoys a stimulating climate with 2,000 hours of annual sunshine that dictate what plant life thrives in Burgenland. The local climate can be characterized by winters that are not too severe, while hot and very dry summers are followed by a stable fall season. Crucial as well in this Mediterranean-like climate is the evaporation power of the huge water reservoir that the more than 100-square-mile steppe lake in effect is. These ideal conditions for the grapes grown here are what help give the wines world renown.
