For Josef Umathum, the attraction of being a vintner lies not only in bringing forth elegant wines with character, struckture and long life, but above all in the journey which leads to it. And the first step in that direction brings us to the importance of revitalizing our environment.

We strive always in our work to be vigilant of nature, to know and understand it, and to make proper decisions in all our actions.

Making wine is a wonderful task, expressed through creativity, harmony with nature, and mental and physical work, all which goes beyond it being one’s destiny to begin with.

In continually experimenting, assessing the range of characteristics, and comparing how specific varieties express themselves distinctly, we get ever closer to the ultimate goal of creating wines that exhibit individual character. We create a good that reveals as much about our local identity and culture as any written word can. Our wines nourish the soul. Eventually the grapes ripen and develop into what every year we strive to achieve-that is, harmonic varietal wines. Not simple drinks, but liquid revelations.
